Fall Reports-Lake Lewisville Fishing Guide

September, which historically is probably the slowest month of the year, turned into a big fish smackdown on Lake Tawakoni until our first cold front arrived. We were catching limits of big striped bass and hybrid stripers daily. Roger and I were targeting them down and leaving the white bass alone. Sassy shad bodies and other four to five-inch swimbaits were putting the fish in the boat. Fish were shallow for the most part, which baffled me. In the past years, I have done well fishing for suspended fish in deep water this time of year, but these big stripers and hybrids were cruising the shallow flats. Trolling worked as well. I don’t care at all to troll, but sometimes it proved to be a necessary tactic. The white bass were readily available and still areas of today. The stripers and hybrids have slowed down as of now, but the white bass are still great. Tiny slabs bounced on the bottom have been producing big numbers. The recent cold fronts have reignited Lake Lewisville. September was a “work for your fish” type of month here, but we still put some good numbers of white bass together. The cooler weather has changed the pattern for the better. White bass with a few hybrid striper have become much more readily available. Humps and points along the ledges have proved to be the best bet. Bouncing a slab and fly/jig or live bait both have put fish in the boat. This is a great sign of things to come in my opinion. Last year, Lewisville reacted oppositely and shut off in September. In conclusion, the white bass are eating good and the future looks bright for late fall and winter. Large groups can be found gorging on shad. Drop a slab on their heads!

Beautiful Lake Ray Roberts is fishing fantastic! The white bass are in a feeding frenzy right now as a result of cooler water temperatures. The past three days we have caught between 150-200 white bass per trip. I have been fishing a slab and fly/jig combo, and catching two white bass at a time on one rod has been common. This is perfect fishing for kids or anyone who enjoys catching a bunch of fish. The action is non stop and is a blast. The pattern here is similar to Lake Lewisville right now. Humps and points have been holding fish. I’ve fished silver and chartreuse slabs, and both have worked well. Fish have been holding anywhere from 18-28 feet of water and are right on the bottom.
